I had such a lovely time in classes tonight. I got a couple of really good ones this time around. My basic class is full of really eager ladies, many of whom are already better than average movers! And my intermediate class is full of ladies who I already adore!

I really love teaching, and I love working with students. There was a time, when I was studying theatre in college, that I thought maybe I would become a teacher. I have always enjoyed the process of watching someone grow, of pulling a great performance out of someone who didn't know they could do it.

But I also love teaching because I feel like it's through that process that I grow myself. If I had not been given the opportunity to start teaching burlesque (through sheer chance!) several years ago, I don't believe I could be the performer I am now. Demonstrating and explaining dance technique really forces you to become more accurate.

When I tell people that I started dancing 4 years ago, they are really surprised. And they should be - I started down this path with two left feet and long limbs that I had no idea how to control. I'm really proud of how much I've accomplished in such a short time!

I'm so grateful for the many positive experiences teaching has allowed me. I love and cherish my responsibility to provide a safe environment where students can expect respect and honest feedback.

There are many times in my life when I can't believe that my dreams have come true, and I get to make my living in such a bold, personally-fulfilling and socially progressive profession. <3

Here's last session's Basic 1 performance - only 8 weeks of classes!
