A lot of my students have been asking me lately how to come up with a burlesque name! Fortunately, this is a topic that's been well covered in burlesque magazines and blogs. For those of you who are considering "what's in a name?" - here are some of my favorite online resources for coming up with your burlesque name:

Love this post form The Dirty Blonde:

Really great comment from Jo "Boobs" Weldon:

Speaking of Jo, she also - literally - wrote the book on it:

More from New York School of Burlesque:

from Black Mariah:

Ministry of Burlesque:

And when you're pretty sure you might have something that might work, I recommend heading over to the Comprehensive Directory of Burlesque Performers (ctrl+F will allow you to search each page quickly):
http://redhotannie.com/resources/directory_of_burlesque_dancers.htm

Follow the Big Three Rulest:
1. No one already uses the name in it's entirety (even if spelled differently!)
2. That name isn't used locally (in whole or in part)
3. No part of the name is overused (if there are 15 "Cherry's" for example, you might consider something else.

Hope this helps!
Thanks to the amazing performers who've put together these excellent resources!

xo
