Good morning!

Moving closer and closer to unveiling my aerial act. I can't believe it's less than 3 weeks away. I've seen the costume, which is nearly finished and looks gorgeous...I've got the outline of the choreography, so now all I need to do is to train my body to seamlessly move from one trick to the next. I can't believe that all the work (the time, the physical strain) is finally coming to a culmination!

I'm getting excited about Windy City Burlesque Fest, and...also Big Lebowski!

We've got a really kick-ass cast this year - not only is Wham Bam Pam returning as Walter, Logan Conner as The Dude, and Trixie Sparx as the Nihilist, Mister Junior as Jesus, but we've also got a stellar Brandt (a key role, truly) and Mia D. Vine will be playing Bunny! The trademark Bowling Showgirl group act will be choreographed by none other than Po'Chop, and it looks like I might even be able to bring aerial tricks into my act for Maude (something that had only recently occured to me is perfectly fitting)!

So we're running the final gauntlet before the year ends with a simple Halloween show, live band show, and Xmas, as well as our monthly show at Lincoln Tap Room. It feels really good to finally have a cast that allows us to focus on putting on fewer, more meaningful shows instead of having to have "training grounds" shows like Exit.

It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to put everything together up to this point, and it's nice to finally be able to sit back a little and be really selective about our projects and cast. Casting is the single most important and most difficult aspect of having a troupe (or even doing shows) - you want excellent performers who are dependable and contribute positively to the troupe/show dynamic, and that means really knowing people before you bring them on board.

(Aside: one of my favorite questions to stump people with is: "Can you name 15 AWESOME local performers you'd like to put in a show together right now?" The answer is never "yes" - which I feel illustrates exactly how important we consider our cast, but how difficult it is to create a solid ensemble, even for one show!)

At any given time, it seems like Vaudezilla has 3-4 "irons in the fire" regarding potential cast members. We are so very particular about who is a good fit! This summer, you'll be seeing us make our first additions to the troupe in over 6 months (Dirty Devlin was official in January, but has been with us for a larger part of a year) - all of our other performers have been with us for a year or longer.

I'm absolutely tickled pink to be able to announce our new performers - we're looking at a couple full-fledged, established performers, as well as a couple Jr. Performers (people who are new to the scene or still in training, but are dependable and have lots of promise).

We've really refined the process of casting to the point where our average contract with a performer lasts over 18 months (in an industry where the mode lifespan of a performer appears to be less than 2 years).

Anyways, just getting excited about the end of 2012 and what it means for our team. July 1st is our 4 year anniversary, and I can't help but breath a sigh of relief at having the vast majority of turmoil far, far behind us. I know it's only June, but damn, I'm looking forward to 2013!

xo

I've been thinking about that question! I'd never want to do a show w/ 15 different performers (for lots of reasons) but here's a list off the top of my head--all who have at least 2 acts I'd love to put in a show. Totally off the top of my head, just performers I have seen... I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two. And there's 30+!! ;) tbh honest the worst part was worrying about who I might be omitting

Wham Bam Pam
Red Hot Annie
Bella Canto
Lady Jack
Bonny Babs
Jeez Loueez
Donna Touch
Walk Away Renee
any or all of the Stage Door Johnnies
Frenchie Kiss

Stella LaRoque
Dottie LaVie
Michelle L'Amour
Deidre Doll
Tomas
Brad French
Viva La Muerte

1. Are any of these people retired or from out of town?
2. Also will they actually work with eachother in a show?
3. Who's available & interested?
4. If you put that person's best act on stage with a "Big Name" person, will they be able to hold their own?

I doubt you intend to imply that casting is actually easy, because I'm sure you know better - but I wonder if you really understand what the question you are responding to is actually asking...
