It has been one of those weeks where now that I'm finally past it, I'm just wondering how the hell I *did* it.

I got back from Seattle late last Monday. Then a couple days of studio rentals, photo shoots, rehearsals, and fittings...all while performing Wed & Thu night for a new crowd (I'm antsy for new crowds these days!).

Thursday night was the Miss Wicker Park pageant. Sadly, I did not place, but I was really just happy to be a part of something different - and it was incredible to be part of a pageant like that and genuinely not care about the outcome. I feel like somewhere between traveling with the Beast Women and BurlyCon, I got a certain amount of perspective that I hadn't yet run into - some kind of certain permission to make mistakes and stop trying to be perfect.

It's hard to explain, but I think I spent the vast majority of my first couple of years in burlesque running so hard, saying "yes" to so much, and trying with all my might to avoid making any mistakes...that the constant pressure really sucked some of the joy out of it for me. It allowed several very critical and/or hostile people into my life, and I was so focused on "success" that I didn't even notice they were there.

That has changed for me. I feel more laid-back, more creative, more productive than I ever have before...and I think it's because I'm not focused on trying to be perfect, I'm focused on being Present.

Anyways - neither here nor there - but I enjoyed the MWP pageant for what it was. I made it into an opportunity, regardless of the outcome, and I haven't thought twice about it.

Aerial class is really getting fun. I've *finally* got the body strength to do some of the simple tricks, and I'm really proud of myself for sticking through the class, in spite of missing a couple for traveling or jobs. I'm definitely planning on continuing taking the class next session. I feel like it's so good for my body!

Last night was the last night of our 8-week sessions (our third session at Vaudezilla Studios!!), and they went great. I'm so happy that the classes are so full and the people who attend them are so lovely. We're taking two months off, and since I'm so used to seeing my semi-private girls weekly (and have been for nearly the whole year!), it's really going to seem like forever for me!

Today, I'm going to work out some kinks in my choreo for Live Band Burlesque, finish some props, and then we've got our final dress rehearsal tonight. I can't put into words how excited we are for this show - in some ways, it's Vaudezilla's "Big Show" of the year, especially since we didn't do Lebowski this year (timing with opening the studio made that a pie in the sky dream - but next year, we'll be back!).

That said, we're hoping to do this every couple of months! The band is spectacular, and we're only going to get better the more synched-up we get with the band. Squeee!!

Anyways, life is good.
Love is good.
I'm happy.

And what more could you ask for?

xo

Of course! We would have done it this year, if not for all the new work the studio brought us! :)

Present, Not Perfect, is an awesome mantra I think. Allows for true creativity to blossom, free of fear! I'm not anywhere near there yet, myself, but it's definitely a goal.
