Waxing nostalgic about 2010 and tickled pink about 2011.

2010 was a fantastic year - how could it not be when it started in Hawaii? I traveled a lot - Grand Rapids, Kansas City, Detroit, Nashville, Austin, Vancouver, and Indianapolis. I successfully refocused myself away from things that made my ego feel good and onto things that made my pocketbook feel good. I had lots of sexy fun with my fair share of sexy people. I did some photo shoots that I feel really proud of. I let go of the single most subtley toxic friendship I've ever had, and rekindled rewarding relationships with friends/family I've missed. We welcome three babies into my family. I started a new company with one of my makeup colleagues. I started learning how to really dance with Jeez Loueez (which has been one of the most rewarding overall experiences for me of 2010). I cranked out some serious SEO improvements for all of my websites. I made more money than I ever have before - and earned every red cent of it! We celebrated Vaudezilla's two year anniversary with clearer visions of where we're headed, welcoming Jeez Loueez, Trixie Sparx, & Cherry Brandi into our team. We remounted Big Lebowsk burlesque to bigger audiences, badder-assed costumes, and box office success. I pulled my weight in producing the first ever Windy City Burlesque Fest. I personally performed in well over 100 shows (not counting private parties, which were plentiful) - and I even got paid for a gig from 2009 that I thought I was gonna get screwed on!

Of course, 2010 also had some downsides. The most tragic was losing two of my favorite Vaudezilla teammates: my muse - Wham Bam Pam, who taught me so much about teamwork and serving others, and Maria May I, who will always hold a special place in my heart for her loyalty and loving nature. We also closed the chapter on our bartop burlesque show at Blue Bayou. Oh, and I did that awful Exxxtacy thing. Ugh. And a mixed blessing, I created only two new burlesque acts this year (Art-Tease-T & Conflicted Seduction)...maybe I wish I'd have created more acts, but both of these ones feel really good.

So really, it was a year of wild success, and I know that it's just setting the table for the great year that 2011 is already shaping up to be. In addition to having more regular work lined up than ever before (classes, especially), I'm looking forward to the new direction and goals my teammates and I will share in 2011. I'm looking forward to being a featured performer in the Southwest Burlesque Showcase, as well as my first festival headliner role at the Jim Thorpe Burlesque Fest. I'm thrilled to be part of the Executive Production team for WCBF 2011.

I'm circling the wagons, still milling over the various New Years resolutions that I could make. I have a feeling I'm going to have a hard time deciding this year around, so maybe I'll focus on a couple of them. As I get ready for my NYE festivities, I can't put into words how hopeful I feel, looking ahead to the accomplishments, joy, and rebirth that awaits us all in the New Year!

Happy New Year!
